Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has attributed part of his side’s 2-1 defeat to Berekum Chelsea in the Ghana Premier League to the poor condition of the pitch at the Golden City Park.
The match, played on Wednesday, saw Medeama travel to Berekum with hopes of securing maximum points to strengthen their position at the top of the table as the season nears its end. However, they struggled to impose themselves and ultimately left empty-handed after 90 minutes.
After the game, Tanko pointed to errors from his players as well as the difficult playing surface as key factors in the loss.
“I think we made a lot of usual mistakes. Looking at the nature of the pitch, definitely the pitch did not help us, but I will congratulate them [Berekum Chelsea] for the win,” Tanko said.
Despite the setback, the Medeama coach urged calm within the camp and emphasized the need to learn from the defeat ahead of their remaining fixtures.
“We just lost this game; we don’t have to panic, but we just have to go and watch the video and correct our mistakes,” he said.
The defeat does not change Medeama’s position at the summit of the Ghana Premier League, where they remain top with 56 points. However, with only a two-point cushion and three matches left, the title race remains finely poised, leaving little room for further slip-ups.
