Black Stars midfielder Thomas Partey has expressed his disappointment following Ghana’s elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while promising that the team will return stronger from the experience.

Ghana’s World Cup campaign came to an end in the Round of 32 after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia in Kansas City, with Jhon Arias scoring the decisive goal that ended the Black Stars’ hopes of progressing further in the competition.

Partey’s involvement in the tournament was initially surrounded by uncertainty after circumstances prevented him from travelling with the squad to Canada for Ghana’s opening fixture. However, the experienced midfielder recovered from the setback and went on to play a key role in the team’s campaign.

The former Thomas Partey featured in all three matches played by Ghana in the United States and was among the team’s most influential performers as the Black Stars competed against some of the world’s top football nations.

Reflecting on the disappointment of the early exit, Partey admitted the defeat was difficult to accept but insisted the experience will serve as motivation for the future.

“This wasn’t the way we wanted our World Cup journey to end. The disappointment is hard to put into words because we believed we were capable of so much more,” Partey wrote on Instagram.

The midfielder described representing Ghana at football’s biggest tournament as one of the proudest moments of his career, emphasizing his commitment whenever he wears the national team jersey.

“Representing Ghana on the biggest stage in football has been one of the greatest honours of my career. Every time I wear this shirt, I gave everything I had, and that’s something I’ll always be proud of.”

Partey also thanked Ghanaian supporters for their unwavering backing throughout the tournament, acknowledging the sacrifices made by fans who followed the team across North America.

“To all the Ghanaians who supported us throughout this journey, THANK YOU. Your passion, belief and unwavering support never went unnoticed. I felt it every step of the way.”

Despite the disappointment, the experienced midfielder believes setbacks are part of football and urged the team to use the lessons learned from the tournament as motivation to improve.

“Football can be cruel, but setbacks are part of the game. We’ll take the lessons, keep working, and come back stronger.”

Ghana will now shift focus to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, where the Black Stars will look to rebuild confidence and begin another chapter under their technical team.
