The future will take care of itself” — Eddie Nketiah on Ghana switch talk

Former Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah has addressed mounting speculation over a possible international switch from England to Ghana, stressing that his current priority is performing for Crystal Palace and trusting that “the future will take care of itself.”

The Crystal Palace striker has become a central talking point in Ghana after the Black Stars secured qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Discussions around his potential involvement — alongside Nottingham Forest winger Callum Hudson-Odoi — have intensified as Ghana ramps up preparations for the expanded tournament in Canada, Mexico and the United States. Some fans see Nketiah as a much-needed boost to Ghana’s attack, while others question the timing of a possible switch.

Nketiah, 26, remains England’s record goalscorer at Under-21 level, and his only senior appearance came in a friendly against Australia in October 2023.

Because he has yet to feature in a competitive senior fixture, FIFA rules still allow him to change nationality. The Ghana Football Association is reportedly monitoring several diaspora players as Otto Addo seeks to strengthen his squad.

Speaking to BBC Sport Africa, Nketiah said he is proud of his heritage but is keeping his focus on club football.

“At the moment, I’m just enjoying my football with Crystal Palace; that has been my focus,” he said. “I’m Ghanaian and there’s no denying that. I’m proud of my roots. I’m sure the future will take care of itself and what will be will be.”

Born in Lewisham to Ghanaian parents, Nketiah began his development at Chelsea before rising through Arsenal’s academy and later joining Palace in a £30m move in 2024. He continues to keep his international options open while working to establish himself as a key Premier League forward.
