Asante Kotoko captain Samba O’Neil has credited his side’s determination and fighting spirit for their hard-fought victory over arch-rivals Hearts of Oak in the Matchday 9 Super Clash of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.
The Porcupine Warriors continued their recent dominance in the Ghanaian top flight with a 1-0 win at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, thanks to a first-half penalty converted by Guinean forward Morifing Donzo.
O’Neil, who was named Man of the Match for his commanding display in midfield, praised his teammates for their resilience and focus throughout the tense encounter.
“Hearts of Oak are a very strong side. The game was not easy, but we were determined to win,” O’Neil said after the match.
The result extends Kotoko’s unbeaten run against Hearts of Oak to five league meetings, reaffirming their dominance in recent editions of Ghana’s most celebrated rivalry.
Kotoko are also unbeaten in their first six matches of the 2025/26 campaign, with three games in hand, placing them firmly in contention for the Premier League title.
