Dutch-born defender of Ghanaian descent Jeremie Frimpong, has disclosed that leadership of Ghana Football Association tried to convince him to play for Black Stars.
The 21-year old Bayern Leverkusen right-back who was eligible to feature for Ghana’s Black Stars through his father, turned down the West African giants approach to see him don the four-time African Champions’ jersey.
“The Ghanaian FA tried to win me over. But I discussed with my family that I want to play for Holland,” Frimpong said in a recent interview in Germany.
Having recorded an incredible form in his debut season at Bayer Leverkusen in the German Bundesliga, the talented full-back, has been invited by Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal for international friendlies against Denmark and Germany this month.
He could make his debut as the Netherlands prepare for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar after securing automatic qualification for topping their group.
Born in Amsterdam, he moved to England aged seven before teaming up with the Manchester City academy.
Frimpong who joined Leverkusen from Celtic FC in the Scottish league, is currently rated as the fastest right-back in the German Bundesliga.
He has been linked with a move to Champions Bayern Munich and other top clubs such as Barcelona and Dortmund owing to his impressive displays.
The Real Madrid target has one goal in 25 appearances this season for Leverkusen.
