Black Stars winger, Ernest Nuamah Appiah has conveyed his exhilaration following his debut goal for the Ghanaian senior national team. His goal proved crucial in securing a significant victory over the Central African Republic on Thursday.
The match, hosted at Kumasi’s Baba Yara Stadium, witnessed Nuamah scoring his first-ever international goal, a pivotal contribution that ensured Ghana’s qualification for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Ivory Coast next year.
Nuamah, who recently joined the renowned French club Lyon, confidently slotted the ball into the net from close range to secure this crucial goal.
This significant goal materialized following an assist from the hardworking Antoine Semenyo, who played a substantial role as a second-half substitute in Ghana’s performance.
Initially, the Central African Republic posed a formidable challenge to Ghana’s long-standing unbeaten record at the Baba Yara Stadium, which had endured for over two decades. They opened the scoring with a goal from forward Louis Mafouta. However, Ghana’s West Ham star, Mohammed Kudus, came to the rescue with a splendid free-kick goal, ensuring both teams entered halftime level.
In the second half, it was Nuamah who ultimately settled the contest with his precisely timed goal, securing a 2-1 victory for Ghana. This win also extended Ghana’s unbeaten streak at the Baba Yara Stadium, which dates back to the year 2000.
Following the game, the Lyon winger took to social media to express his immense delight.
“Golden moments for the Black Stars! From OSEIKROM the heart of Ghana to the African Cup! 🇬🇭 Honored to wear these colors and score my debut goal. The journey has just begun! ⚽️🏆 #ForGhana”
Nuamah made his debut for the national team in the previous game against Madagascar, where he made a cameo appearance. Thursday’s match marked his second appearance for the senior national team.
