Former Asante Kotoko winger Francis Akwafo has called on the club’s supporters to manage their expectations as the team prepares for the upcoming Ghana Premier League season.
After a disappointing campaign that saw Kotoko finish sixth, the club has undergone a significant overhaul, releasing over 20 players and bringing in twelve new recruits. The Porcupine Warriors’ recent 2-1 victory over Hearts of Oak in the Democracy Cup has fueled optimism among fans, but Akwafo advises caution.
In an interview with Kessben FM, Akwafo urged supporters to lower their expectations to ease pressure on the new squad. “We shouldn’t focus solely on winning the Ghana Premier League. The fans need to lower their expectations for the new season. If the players aren’t under too much pressure, they can perform better and secure wins for us. It’s not easy to let go of over 18 players and still win the league,” Akwafo stated.
Asante Kotoko is currently in Cape Coast finalizing preparations for the new season. They will kick off their campaign against Karela United when the Ghana Premier League starts next month.
