Congolese midfielder Glid Otanga has come to the defense of his former Hearts of Oak teammate, Kelvin Osei Assibey, following the latter’s costly mistake in the club’s defeat to Asante Kotoko in their Ghana Premier League matchday 13 fixture on Sunday.
The much-anticipated clash at the Baba Yara Stadium was poised to end in a goalless draw until a late defensive mix-up between Kelvin Osei Assibey and goalkeeper Benjamin Asare allowed Kotoko’s Albert Amoah to score the decisive goal. Amoah’s stoppage-time strike, his seventh goal of the season, handed Kotoko a dramatic 1-0 victory and extended their dominance over Hearts to four consecutive wins.
In the wake of the defeat, Otanga showed his support for Osei Assibey through a heartfelt message on Facebook, urging the young defender to remain resilient and focused despite the setback.
“Things must be hard for you right now, but for me, you remain a good defender and the future for your nation. Mistakes are part of our work. Keep working and accept criticism because that is what will make you grow. I am proud of you,” Otanga wrote.
With this loss, Hearts of Oak will be eager to recover quickly as they turn their attention to their next fixture against Berekum Chelsea. For Osei Assibey, the upcoming match provides an opportunity to redeem himself and restore confidence following the disappointing Super Clash result.
