Martin Koopman, the head coach of Hearts of Oak, expressed his delight after the team’s 3-1 victory over champions Medeama at the Accra Sports Stadium in a match during the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season.
He described it as his best home game as the coach of Hearts of Oak.
The Phobians secured their second win of the season in this match, marking the first time they had scored more than one goal in a game, having previously scored only twice.
Speaking about the victory, Koopman mentioned that Hearts of Oak fans had been eagerly awaiting such a performance.
Hearts of Oak took the lead thanks to Appiah Kubi’s own goal in the 7th minute. Hamza Issah extended Accra Hearts of Oak’s lead to 2-0 in the 17th minute. Although Medeama pulled one back in the 21st minute through Godknows Dzakpasu, Hamza Issah sealed the victory with his second goal in the 34th minute.
Koopman also noted that the patience of the fans had paid off, as the team’s training sessions were starting to show results on the field.
“At home, I think yes [this was my best game as a Hearts of Oak coach] but the last game was also good,” Koopman said.
“They [fans] have waited a long time [to see this] but if you they are patient, we did it in the training session and it is now reflecting in the game.”
