Black Stars midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi has shared an emotional message following Ghana’s elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, expressing his disappointment over the team’s exit while promising supporters that brighter days lie ahead.

The 20-year-old midfielder took to social media after Ghana’s narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32 in Kansas City, a result that brought an end to the Black Stars’ encouraging campaign in North America.

Ghana advanced from Group L to reach the knockout stages for the first time since 2010, but their hopes of progressing further were dashed after Jhon Arias’ early strike proved enough to send Colombia into the Round of 16.

Reflecting on the painful defeat, Yirenkyi admitted the disappointment remains difficult to accept despite having time to process the result.

“Even after some time to reflect, this one still hurts,” Yirenkyi wrote.

“Our World Cup journey has come to an end, but I’m incredibly proud to have represented my country on the biggest stage.”

The FC Nordsjælland midfielder enjoyed a breakthrough tournament and quickly became one of Ghana’s standout performers.

He etched his name into the headlines by scoring the winning goal in the Black Stars’ opening group-stage victory over Panama before producing energetic displays against England, Croatia and Colombia.

Yirenkyi also took the opportunity to thank Ghanaian supporters for standing behind the team throughout the tournament, acknowledging the unwavering backing they received from fans both at home and abroad.

“Thank you all for your unwavering support,” he added. “It means more than you know. Thank you Ghana.”

Despite the heartbreak of elimination, the promising midfielder remains confident that the experience gained at the World Cup will help both himself and the national team grow stronger.

“This is not the end,” Yirenkyi concluded. “I’ll keep working, keep improving. The best is yet to come!”

Yirenkyi’s impressive performances during the tournament have further enhanced his growing reputation, with several European clubs reportedly monitoring the Ghana international ahead of the summer transfer window.

As the Black Stars shift their focus to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, the young midfielder is expected to play a central role in the team’s next chapter as Ghana seeks to build on the progress made at the World Cup.
