Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo has expressed his gratitude to supporters while promising that the Black Stars will emerge stronger following their heartbreaking exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Black Stars’ impressive campaign came to an end after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32 in Kansas City, with Jhon Arias’ early strike proving enough to send the South Americans into the last 16.
Semenyo, who played the full 90 minutes in the knockout encounter, took to Instagram to share an emotional message with Ghanaian fans, admitting the disappointment of the defeat while thanking supporters for standing by the team throughout the tournament.
“Words can’t describe how I feel. The team wanted more, and I wanted more,” the Manchester City forward wrote.
“To all Ghanaians, thank you for your incredible support and for traveling across America to cheer us on.”
Despite the painful elimination, the 26-year-old refused to dwell on the setback, insisting the experience would only strengthen the national team ahead of future competitions.
“This isn’t a loss, it’s a lesson learned,” Semenyo added. “We’ll be back stronger. Believe that.”
Semenyo was one of Ghana’s brightest attacking outlets throughout the tournament, using his pace, strength and direct running to trouble opposition defences. He was at the heart of the Black Stars’ attacking efforts against Colombia alongside Ernest Nuamah and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, but the trio were unable to find a way past the South Americans’ disciplined defence.
Although Ghana’s journey ended in the Round of 32, the Black Stars restored pride by progressing beyond the group stage for the first time since the 2010 FIFA World Cup, offering supporters renewed optimism under the team’s rebuilding project.
The Black Stars will now shift their focus to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with Semenyo expected to remain a key figure as Ghana looks to build on the positives from its World Cup campaign and return stronger on the continental stage.
