The Black Meteors’ exceptional performance in securing a spot in the 2023 Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations did not go unnoticed by Black Stars coach, Chris Hughton, who was present in the stands.

Led by coach Ibrahim Tanko, the team displayed a cohesive and fluid style of football, edging out their Algerian opponents.

Some standout players in the game may have even caught the attention of Hughton, who was seen taking notes during the match.

We have identified three players who could have potentially impressed the Black Stars coach.

Abdul Fatawu Issahaku

Despite being part of the Black Stars team before, Issahaku was left out of the squad for their matches against Angola. However, his recent performances in the two games against Algeria demonstrate that he deserved to be included in the national team.

Issahaku’s contribution was significant, as both of Ghana’s goals in the matches were scored by him, including an impressive long-range strike in Algiers.

Throughout the games, he remained active and proved that he is a talented player.

Ernest Nuamah Appiah

The FC Nordsjaelland forward was a popular pick among many to be part of the Black Stars team for their games against Angola.

Hence, it was surprising when he was excluded from the squad. However, he was later given a chance to redeem himself by being included in the Meteors team, which had an important assignment as well.

In the matches against Algeria, Nuamah showcased his exceptional skills and his ability to make a difference from the flanks.

He even contributed to Fatawu Issahaku’s goal by providing a good cross from the wing.

Dominic Nsobila

Playing in the heart of Ghana’s midfield, the Accra Lions midfielder proved to be a skilled controller of the ball.

Despite his young age, he demonstrated an excellent sense of timing, knowing precisely when to change the tempo of the game to benefit Ghana.

While the Black Stars already possess a talented midfield, the youngster’s performance should not be overlooked.

There is often a demand for locally-based players to be included in the team, and his impressive showing may make him a strong contender for selection.
