Three things Otto Addo got right against Switzerland

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo seems to have been getting things right finally.

The German trained coach was severely bashed by pundits and connoisseurs of the game in September following the team’s poor outing against Brazil and Nicaragua.

After those two games in which those two games in which the Black Stars were thrashed 3-0 by Brazil before winning 1-0 against a mediocre Nicaraguan side, many people were skeptical about Otto Addo and some even thought he must be sacked before the world cup in Qatar.

In just two months, the Dortmund man has been able to get his acts together. The Black Stars played their best game ever this year on Thursday,  November 17 at the Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. It was a masterstroke performance by the Black Stars, one that every Ghanaian will be proud of as they defeated Switzerland 2-0.

Sportworldghana.com takes a look at the three things Otto Addo got right in the game.

-All England based defenders

There was so much telepathy at the back. All four defenders play their club football in England.

Salisu is with Southampton, Amartey at Leicester, Tariq Lamptey at Brighton and Baba Rahman at Reading.

At least, three of them who are based in the EPL know each other and their style of play so it was easy for them to jell.

-Playing two holding midfielders In front of the back four

Against Brazil in the recent friendly, Addo made a suicidal mistake. He played four at the back and used Baba Iddrisu as the only midfield anchor. This allowed the Brazilians to get more room to operate.

In the game against Switzerland on Thursday, November 17 Addo opted for a back four but this time, played two defensive midfielders (Salis and Owusu) in front of them. It worked to perfection as it brought stability to the team.

-Playing Andre Ayew as a number 10.

That is the best position of the Ghana skipper. Ayew was very mobile in the game against Switzerland as he operated as a number 10.

He was able to support the attack and even tracked back to midfield to get the ball and move forward.
