Ghana coach Chris Hughton has provided insight into the reasoning behind his formation and starting lineup in the Black Stars’ match against Liberia on Tuesday.
Ghana secured a convincing 3-1 victory over the Lone Stars at the Accra Sports Stadium, extending Hughton’s unbeaten record as the Black Stars coach to five matches.
In the game, Hughton opted for some unfamiliar faces in the lineup, including Medeama’s Fatawu Hamidu, Baba Iddrisu, and Ernest Nuamah, all of whom received their first start under the experienced tactician.
After the match, Hughton explained that the game provided him with an opportunity to experiment with different tactics that could potentially be utilized in the future.
“Today’s setup gives me the opportunity to think about possible formations in the future for the Ghana Black Stars,” Coach Chris Hughton said.
Following this match, the Black Stars are scheduled to play two international friendlies against Mexico and the United States next month, aimed at keeping the team in good shape ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and the Africa Cup of Nations, which will be held in Ivory Coast next year.
