Martha Persis Oteng, a promising 17-year-old forward at Tottenham Hotspur, has been granted her debut call-up to represent Ghana’s Black Princesses, showcasing her impressive accomplishments in English football.
Despite being born in Oberhausen, Germany, and moving to London at the age of 11 in 2017, Oteng has chosen to prioritize representing Ghana over England, highlighting her deep connection to the West African nation.
Her call-up to Coach Yusif Basigi’s squad for the third round of the U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers against Eswatini reflects the high expectations that the national team has for her emerging talent.
Her football journey has taken her from SC Buschhausen, a boys’ team in Germany, to the ranks of Tottenham Hotspur, where she has consistently climbed the ladder in the world of women’s football.
Despite growing up in Europe, Oteng maintains a strong connection to Ghana, with both of her parents originating from the West African country. Her father holds the esteemed title of Omanhene of Twifu Hemang traditional area in the Central Region, and her mother hails from Kwahu.
Affectionately known as “P” by her club mates, her story exemplifies the increasingly global nature of football and the rich diversity of talent that comes from various backgrounds.
