Both Eintracht Frankfurt and FSV Mainz 05 have confirmed that Aymen Barkok will make the switch to the Nullfünfter after the current season.
The Frankfurt midfielder was part of the Morocco team at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations as they were eliminated by Egypt in the quarter-final on Sunday.
The two Bundesliga clubs involved put out confirmation of the reports surfacing earlier in the day Aymen Barkok’s move to Mainz.
Though there were negotiations throughout deadline day about moving the transfer forward in January, the 23-year-old Moroccan international will instead switch this summer on a free.
“Aymen Barkok has already been able too accrue a lot of experience in the Bundesliga despite his young age,” FSV sporting director Martin Schmidt is quoted as saying on Mainz’s website, “he’s technically gifted and will complement our team profile very well.”
Indeed, Barkok has appeared 72 times in Germany’s top footballing division; 57 times for the SGE and 15 times whilst on loan at Fortuna Düsseldorf.
Barkok inked a contract with his new club through the end of the 2024/25 season.
