Ghana U-20 head coach Desmond Ofei is calling on his side to play with courage, purpose, and intelligence as they gear up for the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Egypt.
The West African powerhouse arrives in Egypt with a rich legacy, having won four AFCON titles and a historic FIFA U-20 World Cup trophy in 2009. With such a strong history, the Black Satellites come into the tournament with both a massive legacy and high expectations.
Drawn into a challenging Group C alongside defending champions Senegal, DR Congo, and the Central African Republic, Ghana faces a tough challenge right from the start.
Despite the difficult group, Ghana enters the tournament with confidence, and Ofei is determined to see his team perform at the highest level.
“Expect a team that plays with courage, purpose, and intelligence. We want to control games, with and without the ball. Our identity is built on dynamic, expressive football, backed by strong tactical discipline,” Ofei told CAF media in an interview.
The top two teams from each group, along with the two best third-placed teams, will progress to the quarter-finals.
The tournament is set to kick off on Sunday, April 27, 2025, and will run until the final on May 18, 2025.
The stakes are high, as the top four finishers will secure their place in the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile—a tournament where Ghana has previously made history as the only African team to win the prestigious title.
