Ghanaian midfielder Frank Junior Adjei put in an eye-catching performance on Sunday, scoring a sensational goal in IFK Varnamo’s narrow 3-2 defeat to IF Brommapojkarna in the Swedish Allsvenskan.
Despite the loss, the former Bibiani Gold Stars player stood out with his attacking flair and determination, delivering one of the game’s most memorable moments with a stunning long-range effort.
The match began on a tough note for Varnamo, as Alex Timossi Andersson gave the hosts the lead in the 27th minute. Not long after the break, Brommapojkarna doubled their advantage through Ghanaian teenager Ezekiel Alladoh, who finished a swift team move with a powerful left-footed strike.
Trailing by two goals, Varnamo needed a spark—and Adjei provided it. Just after the hour mark, the energetic midfielder collected the ball outside the penalty area and unleashed a fierce drive that flew past the goalkeeper, reigniting hope for his team.
Varnamo’s comeback gained momentum, and in the 83rd minute, Simon Thern curled in a brilliant free-kick to level the score.
However, their efforts to secure a point came undone in stoppage time when Kaare Barslund netted the winner for Brommapojkarna.
Though the result was disappointing, Adjei’s display offered a bright spot for Varnamo. Now in his third season in Sweden, the 23-year-old continues to develop into a key figure in the team’s midfield.
