Ghana U-20 head coach, Desmond Ofei, has set a clear target of leading the Black Satellites to victory at the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt.
The four-time champions have been placed in a tough Group C, where they will come up against defending champions Senegal, DR Congo, and the Central African Republic. The tournament is scheduled to run from Sunday, April 27 to Sunday, May 18, 2025.
Speaking to CAF media ahead of the competition, Ofei stressed the importance of approaching the tournament with focus and discipline, starting with progressing beyond the group stage.
“Our immediate goal is to get out of the group stage. From there, we take it one step at a time,” he said. “Of course, the long-term aim is to win the tournament and secure qualification for the U-20 World Cup, but we’ll do that by staying consistent and focused on the process.”
Ghana will need to finish in the top two of their group or be among the two best third-placed teams to qualify for the quarter-finals.
The Black Satellites will be hoping to bounce back from recent underwhelming campaigns and reestablish themselves as a powerhouse in youth football, drawing motivation from their illustrious past in the competition.
