Ghana’s Black Satellites secured their first victory of the U-20 WAFU B Cup of Nations Championship with a 2-0 win against Niger on Sunday, October 20.
Under the guidance of Desmond Ofei, the team claimed all three points thanks to a second-half brace from Aziz Musibau. This match marked Ghana’s second Group A fixture, following a 2-2 draw with Benin in their opener. Similarly, Niger entered the game seeking their first three points after also drawing 2-2 with Togo in their initial outing.
Both teams started the match strongly, creating several chances in the first 30 minutes, but neither could convert their opportunities, leading to a goalless first half.
The breakthrough came in the 63rd minute when Musibau struck a long-range effort that found the back of the net, giving Ghana the lead. Just ten minutes later, he doubled the advantage with another goal, this time assisted by Jerry Afriyie, who delivered a precise square pass into Musibau’s path.
Despite a determined effort from Niger, the Black Satellites held firm defensively to maintain their clean sheet and secure the victory.
With this win, Ghana now has four points from two matches and will face Togo in their final group game on Wednesday, October 23. The tournament serves as a qualifier for the upcoming U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
