Cremonese striker Felix Afena-Gyan has received an invitation to join the Black Meteors camp for their upcoming U-23 AFCON qualifiers against Algeria.
Despite his team’s low position in the Serie A table, Gyan has been called up to boost the Black Meteors’ offense after being initially left out of Tanko’s team, which had already invited eight foreign players.
Gyan’s prior experience with the Black Stars, having helped Ghana qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar before being dropped from the final squad, may have influenced the decision to include him.
Coach Ibrahim Tanko and his squad are focused on securing Ghana’s spot in the U-23 AFCON tournament, with the first leg of the final qualification round set for March 24th in Annaba, followed by the return leg in Kumasi four days later.
The U-23 Africa Cup of Nations will be held in Morocco in June of this year, serving as qualifiers for the 2024 Olympic Games.
The top three teams from the tournament will qualify for the 2024 Summer Olympics men’s football tournament in Paris.
