Desmond Ofei Reiterates U-20 World Cup Qualification Goal After Win Over Senegal
Head coach of Ghana’s U-20 men’s national team, Desmond Ofei, has reaffirmed that guiding the Black Satellites to the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile remains his top priority.
Ofei made the remarks after Ghana secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over Senegal in their second Group C match at the ongoing U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt. The victory followed a 1-1 draw with DR Congo in their opening game and was sealed by Emmanuel Mensah’s 14th-minute goal.
The result boosts Ghana’s chances of reaching the knockout stage, with a semi-final berth in the AFCON guaranteeing qualification for the World Cup. Ofei emphasized that this objective remains the team’s central focus.
“Our main goal is to qualify for the World Cup. That’s the focus—each match and every positive result takes us one step closer,” Ofei said after the win. “We will fight, prepare well and give our best against Central African Republic.”
Ghana will wrap up their group-stage campaign against Central African Republic on Thursday, May 8, at 3:00 p.m. A win or a draw in that fixture could be enough to secure a spot in the quarter-finals.
