Former Black Stars of Ghana midfielder, Michael Essien has backed English Premier League side, Chelsea to win the UEFA Champions League for a second consecutive time.
Chelsea won the prestigious European tournament last season after beating domestic rivals Manchester City in the final, with Kai Havertz scoring a first goal to earn the Blues the trophy.
However, despite the investment made by other clubs as well as the current champions, Essien still believes his former side are still capable of repeating what they did in the 2020/21 season.
“I believe they [Chelsea] can do back-to-back wins for the club. It would be a very big achievement but they have a big squad and with Lukaku back, they are well prepared,” the former Chelsea midfielder said.
Essien was called up as one of the former players to assist in the making of the draw for this season’s Champions League.
