Ipswich Town are reportedly closing in on the signing of Ghana international winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku from Leicester City in a deal believed to be worth around £20 million.
According to reports from Sky Sports, the newly promoted Premier League club are close to reaching an agreement with Leicester for the 22-year-old attacker after weeks of negotiations between the two sides.
Ipswich’s interest in Fatawu emerged last week, with the club initially seeing a bid rejected before talks continued as both parties worked towards finding a compromise. The Blues have now moved ahead of several other interested clubs in the race for the Ghanaian’s signature.
Premier League rivals Everton were previously linked with a move for the 32-time Ghana international, with reports suggesting the Toffees had also held discussions over a potential transfer. West Ham United and Turkish giants Besiktas were also monitoring the situation.
However, Ipswich have emerged as the frontrunners and are now hopeful of completing a major attacking addition ahead of their return to the English top flight.
Fatawu joined Leicester City from Portuguese giants Sporting CP in 2023, initially arriving on loan before making the move permanent after helping the Foxes secure promotion to the Premier League.
The winger remained with Leicester during their return to the Championship last season and delivered an impressive individual campaign despite the club’s struggles. He recorded nine goals and seven assists, showcasing his pace, creativity and ability to produce spectacular moments.
One of his standout moments came against Ipswich at the King Power Stadium in December, when he scored a stunning goal from inside his own half in a memorable display.
Despite his personal contributions, Fatawu could not prevent Leicester from suffering relegation, but his performances enhanced his reputation as one of Ghana’s brightest young attacking talents.
Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna is keen to add more quality and unpredictability to his squad ahead of their Premier League campaign, with Fatawu’s direct running, versatility and attacking threat viewed as valuable assets.
A move to Portman Road would represent another major step in the career of the former Steadfast FC academy graduate, who has quickly established himself as one of Ghana’s most exciting players on the European stage.
