Charlotte FC, a Major League Soccer team, has announced that former Black Stars defender Harrison Afful will be departing at the end of the just-concluded season as his contract has expired.
The club confirmed in a statement that Afful, along with five other players, will not have their contracts renewed for the upcoming season.
During the 2023 MLS season, the 37-year-old made fifteen league appearances for Charlotte FC.
The official statement from the club reads: “Six players have had their contract option declined: Harrison Afful, McKinze Gaines, Chris Hegardt, Pablo Sisniega, Jan Sobocinski, and Adrian Zendejas.”
The statement also expresses the club’s gratitude to all the departing players for their contributions to Charlotte FC.
Afful, who had previously played for Columbus Crew, has an impressive ten seasons of experience in Major League Soccer.
