Ghanaian comedic actor and skit creator, Akabenezer, recently disclosed that several years ago, he played for the youth team, Auroras, before making his way to the senior side of Accra Hearts of Oak.
According to him, after unsuccessful trials in the early 2000s, he had to change his focus, a journey that he shared with former Hearts of Oak forward, Louis Agyemang, who later played for the Phobians from 2002 to 2005.
In an interview with Pure FM, a radio station based in Kumasi, Aka Ebenezer, popularly known as Dr. Likee, revealed that his football journey began in Tafo, a suburb of Kumasi, where he played as a defender before progressing to Auroras and eventually joining Hearts of Oak.
“I played for Auroras and Hearts of Oak in the early 2000s alongside Louis Agyemang, but my stint with the team was short-lived. We were five players sent for trials to earn our spot, and although Louis Agyemang and I were selected, I didn’t receive as much playing time as he did,” he stated.
“We were recommended for trials by a former Black Starlets Team Manager named Adabanka. Out of the five of us, only Louis Agyemang made it through. We were the first to bring second-division football to Tafo. The best footballer in the Ashanti Region hailed from Tafo,” he added.
Now, as he has honed his acting skills, Aka Ebenezer serves as the brand ambassador for Shaxi, a Ghanaian online ride-hailing service founded by Ghanaian reggae/dancehall artiste Shatta Wale.
