Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has expressed strong confidence in the Black Queens ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Drawn in Group D alongside Cameroon, Mali, and Cape Verde, Ghana face a competitive challenge, but Okraku believes past successes have prepared the team to compete with Africa’s elite.
Reflecting on Ghana’s third-place finish at the 2024 WAFCON, also hosted in Morocco, he said the team has proven its ability to match the continent’s top sides.
“On the back of the fact that Ghana were third at the last WAFCON, Ghana should be ready to face any opponent. The Black Queens should be able to play against any side on the African continent if you want to become a champion,” Okraku told reporters.
Beyond continental honours, WAFCON 2026 doubles as a qualifying tournament for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. A semi-final finish guarantees automatic qualification, something Ghana has not achieved since 2007.
Having already reached the semi-finals in the last edition, the Black Queens are aiming to go one step further and secure their first-ever WAFCON title.
The tournament is scheduled to run from March 17 to April 3, 2026, promising weeks of high-intensity, top-quality women’s football in Morocco.
