The West Africa Zone B (WAFU B) Women’s Champions League qualifiers saw Ampem Darkoa Ladies kick off their campaign with a 4-2 triumph against Togolese side Amid Du Monde at the Samuel Ogbemudia Sports Stadium.
The Ghanaian champions wasted no time, opening the scoring within the first minute as their captain, Mary Owusu, headed in a goal to put her team in the lead.
Against the flow of play, Amid Du Monde managed to equalize in the 17th minute. However, just three minutes later, Ampem Darkoa Ladies regained control, with Mary Amponsah capitalizing on a goalkeeper error to secure a 2-1 advantage.
Continuing their dominance into the second half, Ampem Darkoa Ladies extended their lead in the 55th minute. Mary Amponsah completed her hat-trick, increasing the margin to two goals.
Seven minutes following, Ampem Darkoa Ladies further solidified their position by scoring a fourth goal. Mary Amponsah found the net again to complete her impressive haul.
In the later stages of the match, Amid Du Monde managed to reduce the deficit. However, a comeback was not in the cards, and Ampem Darkoa Ladies maintained their composure to secure a 4-2 victory.
The Ghanaian champions will step back onto the field on Friday, August 25, 2023, for their final group stage encounter against Ivorian contenders Atletico FC.
