“We’re always ambitious” – West Bromwich Albion star Brandon Thomas-Asante anticipates good season

Brandon Thomas-Asante says he’s not fussed how the goals go in, just as long as they’re getting points on the board for Albion.

The Ghanaian striker netted his first of the season in the Sky Bet Championship against Leeds on Friday night to help the Baggies draw 1-1 at Elland Road.

And, after the match, he spoke to WBA TV about the game – and explained how Jayson Molumby tried his hardest to claim another for his tally instead.

Brandon said: “However it goes in, as long as it helps the team and adds to the tally, I’ll take it however it comes.

“I ran off and thought everybody knew it was mine, and then I turned around and he (Jayson Molumby) was celebrating, arms out and whatnot. I had to add a bit more sauce to the celebration for a second!

“In the end I made it clear that it was mine, he wasn’t too happy, but the rest of the boys were alright.

“In the dressing room he was asking me not to claim it, which is never going to happen. He’ll take the assist, I’m sure.

“It was a well-fought point. Sometimes it’s a hard one because Leeds had a lot of possession and we knew what they would bring, being away from home for us.

“But when we managed to spring out, we caused problems at times and I think, on the whole, we’ll probably take the point to be fair.

“We’re always ambitious, we don’t go into games to draw. But coming out of it, knowing how the game went, we’ll take it and hope it pays off at the end of the season.

“The result sends a message not just to others, but to ourselves as well. Of course, everyone has been commenting on how competitive the league is this year.

“The teams that have come down had been in the Premier League for years, and you’ve got teams coming up as well, combined with the quality that was already in the league.

“So setting that benchmark today, we know we’re going toe-to-toe with the best teams in the league.

“We know that we’ve got more to come. All the players would say we’ve got a bit to do to achieve that. But we know we’ve got the quality in the dressing room to do that.

“We trust in each other, we trust in the manager, so we’ll get there.”
