The games against South Korea and Japan will be the first step in preparations for Ghana ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The squad was announced on Tuesday by head coach Otto Addo, with new faces included and some of the old players excluded.
Mohammed Kudus, Jordan Ayew, Thomas Partey, and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku are names missing in the list for the trip, while Kelvin Nkrumah, Prince Kwabena Adu, and Prince Osei Owusu are included.
Many have been wondering the reason why the head coach decided not to call his lieutenants and also added many new faces.
Henry Asante Twum, the communications director of the Ghana Football Association, has explained the reason behind Otto Addo’s decision.
“Absentees from Black Stars squad for the Japan and South Korea friendly games are due to legitimate reasons and not the travelling distance,” Asante Twum said.
“We all came to the agreement that some players will need to rest while others are nursing injuries, so we need to let them stay behind. The new faces in the squad have been on the list of the technical team for some time now, so it is an opportunity for them to prove their worth in these games.
“These friendly games are aimed at working on something in the Black Stars and among the players. We just want to make use of the best talent for the future,” he added.
Ghana will play Japan in the Kirin Cup on Friday, November 14, before taking on South Korea on November 18.
