Ghana winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has delivered an emotional message to Ghanaians following the Black Stars’ dramatic 1-0 victory over Panama in their opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, expressing gratitude for the unwavering support shown to the team throughout their journey.

The Leicester City star, who made a significant impact after coming on as a second-half substitute, took to social media hours after the historic triumph to acknowledge the role played by fans across the country and around the world.

Ghana secured all three points in dramatic fashion at BMO Field in Toronto, with Caleb Yirenkyi scoring a stoppage-time winner to hand the Black Stars a dream start to their World Cup campaign. The victory not only boosted Ghana’s hopes of reaching the knockout stage but also saw the four-time African champions become the African nation with the most FIFA World Cup wins in history.

As celebrations erupted across Ghana, Fatawu made it clear that the players remain deeply appreciative of the faith and encouragement they continue to receive from supporters.

“Great people of Ghana, thank you all for your incredible support and unwavering belief in us,” Fatawu wrote.

The talented winger acknowledged the sacrifices, prayers and emotional investment of Ghanaian fans, emphasizing that the team draws strength from the backing they receive from every corner of the nation.

“We truly appreciate every message, every prayer, and every show of love.”

Fatawu further assured supporters that the players remain fully committed to giving everything for the national team as they continue their quest for World Cup glory.

“We promise to give everything on the pitch and make you proud.”

With crucial Group L clashes against England and Croatia still ahead, the former Sporting CP star stressed that the squad remains determined to reward the confidence shown in them by the Ghanaian people.

“We will not let you down.”

The 22-year-old concluded his message with a passionate declaration of national pride that has quickly resonated with fans on social media.

“🇬🇭❤️ WE ARE GHANA!!!”

Fatawu’s heartfelt words reflect the unity and belief currently running through the Black Stars camp following their memorable victory over Panama. The team’s fighting spirit, resilience and determination have already won admiration from supporters, who will now be hoping Ghana can build on its impressive start when they face England in a highly anticipated Group L showdown.

Having overcome Panama through discipline, patience and a never-say-die attitude, the Black Stars head into their next challenge with renewed confidence, carrying not only three valuable points but also the hopes and dreams of millions of Ghanaians eager to see another memorable World Cup chapter written by their beloved national team.
