Zamalek are yet to truly discover their opponents in the finals even though it is on paper that RS Berkane will face the Egyptians. In the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup, both legs between RS Berķane of Morocco and USM Alger of Algeria were not plaýed. This is unbelievably unbelievable as the two-legged semi-finals were not been honoured.
Long existing feud between Morocco and Algeria over who is the rightful owner of Western Sahara has certainly increased the tension between the two North African countries. The semi-final tie between RS Berkane and USM Alger has worsened things.
CAF has ruled the first leg case in favour of the Moroccans but the Algerians have filed the case to The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and they are optimistic they will win the case and therefore play in the finals against Zamalek.
USM president, Abdelkarim Harkati, has sounded optimistic ahead of the ruling as he has boosted the morale of USM fans and Algerians in general.
“We are very optimistic about winning the case before CAS against CAF and RS Berkane because we have submitted our complaints and the right is with us.
“We have established all the laws and they are in our favour, and our hopes are high to regain our rights in this Confederation Cup. We will play in the final as we know,” concluded the 19th president of USM Alger, Abdelkarim Harkati.
The president is very hopeful that they will win the case against RS Berkane as the law favours them.
Zamalek are waiting for their opponents after winning 3-0 on aggregate against Dreams FC.
