Club Brugge deservedly won 2-0 against Atlético Madrid, thanks in the first place to Mignolet’s impressive interventions, but also to Kamal Sowah’s 1-0 brilliance.

“Yes, I don’t really realize it yet, but I think we certainly deserved this victory,” said Sowah afterwards. “We have worked very hard the last few days with the whole team to achieve such a result. Especially the way we came out tonight, especially the tactical plan we had was just right,” said Sowah after Tuesday’s victory.

”My goal was actually not that difficult. I passed the ball to Ferran (Jutglà, ed.) and just kept walking, hoping I would get the ball back and that’s how the 1-0 happened. Of course it is unbelievable that after my first goal for Club in Porto I could now also score against Atlético. And then all our supporters who went crazy.

“They kept shouting at us with all the consequences. 0-4 against Porto and now 2-0 against Atlético Madrid, I think I rate this victory higher”

Sowah was signed from Leicester City in 2021 for an amount of 9.6 Million Euros and featured for Dutch Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar on loan last season.

Many football pundits were skeptical of Sowah after his slow start to life at Club Brugge but they now believe he has shown that the amount paid to purchase him wasn’t a fluke.

“People were laughing at Sowah previously because of his big price tag and the fact that he wasn’t scoring but with goals in big games against Porto and Atletico, he has justified his price tag.” Nieuwsblad stated.
