Dr. Richard Nsenkyire, President of FC Samartex, has emphasized the significant benefits of competing in the CAF Champions League, especially for a club making its debut in the prestigious tournament.
The Timber Giants earned their spot in the competition after clinching the Ghanaian Premier League title and successfully defeating Victoria United in the preliminary rounds.
In an interview with Asempa FM, Dr. Nsenkyire noted that participation in African competitions has provided valuable exposure for the players.
“Playing in Africa has given the players exposure. It’s our first time, but we understand that participating in the CAF Champions League or the Confederation Cup offers this invaluable experience,” he explained.
Additionally, Dr. Nsenkyire revealed that the club has turned down multiple offers for some of their players, prioritizing their current campaign in the CAF Champions League. “We have received offers for some of the players, but we are in a tournament and need our quality players to stay,” he stated.
In the second round of the preliminary games, Samartex secured a 2-2 draw against Raja Casablanca in the first leg at Accra Sports Stadium. The return leg is set for Saturday, September 21, at Stade Larbi Zaouli.
