Ghana’s Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has issued a clear directive to the Ghana national football team technical team, urging them to approach their upcoming international friendlies with a winning mentality rather than treating them as mere experimental fixtures.
As part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Black Stars are set to face Austria national football team on Friday, March 27, at the Ernst Happel Stadium before travelling to Stuttgart to take on the Germany national football team on Monday, March 30.
Speaking to Graphic Sports, Adams stressed that he has already communicated his expectations to head coach Otto Addo and his backroom staff, insisting that results must be a priority.
“I’ve told the coaches that these two friendlies, we are going with the mindset of winning, not just going to try players,” the Buem MP stated.
The Black Stars opened camp on Sunday and held their first training session on Monday with 21 players in attendance. Reinforcements are expected, with Alexander Djiku and Kojo Oppong Peprah set to join the squad to complete preparations.
Beyond the Austria and Germany clashes, Ghana’s build-up to the Mundial will continue with further high-profile friendlies against Mexico national football team and Wales national football team in May and June.
