Black Satellites head coach Maxwell Konadu has confirmed that Ghana will make significant changes to its squad ahead of the 2027 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, despite using the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship to assess players.
Following Ghana’s group-stage exit in Côte d’Ivoire, Konadu admitted the team fell short of expectations and revealed the technical team will rebuild before next year’s tournament, where Ghana will compete as hosts.
“We came here to win, but it didn’t work out. We will reorganise ourselves. Definitely, we will not present the same team for the AFCON next year,” Konadu said.
The former Asante Kotoko coach explained that the WAFU tournament was an opportunity to evaluate mainly home-based players, with some impressing enough to remain in contention.
“Some of them have shown that, given the opportunity, they can really excel. Some couldn’t make the mark, while others showed they have what it takes,” he added.
Konadu said competition for places will intensify over the coming months as the technical team scouts more local and foreign-based talent in a bid to build a stronger squad capable of challenging for the continental title on home soil in 2027.
