German side Werder Bremen, have announced the signing of Ghanaian defender Derrick Köhn on loan from Turkish top club Galatasaray Istanbul for one year. Both clubs also agreed on an option to buy Werder after the end of the loan.
The 25-year-old left-back after signing the deal, spoke about his childhood dreams, the reasons for his move and his goals with SVW.
Asked about what extent his return to northern Germany means to him, said: ”Yes, as you say. I’m happy to be here and also to be back home to a certain extent.
”It was a great and good time in which I gained a lot of experience. When I heard about Werder’s interest, I really wanted to do it. Because it’s a great and traditional club, which is why it was out of the question for me to return to northern Germany. I’m looking forward to wearing the green jersey.
”Last week I was able to fulfil a childhood dream with Galatasaray and play in the Champions League. It’s very nice to fulfil my Bundesliga dream now. These were two very great weeks. I think the child in me screams.” Koln mentioned.
”I like to defend, but also to set offensive actions. Just like scoring goals and giving assists. I’m an athletic, fast player who likes to play football and dribble.
”I think that suits me very well. I also played there in Hanover and felt very comfortable. On the left side, I can be the Derrick that I also see in myself. I’m looking forward to seeing him again and playing with him here.
”You could say so (laughs). I think that’s a good order. I’m very happy with the number 19, which I also wore in the youth.
”I want to bring my strengths to the team and play a very good season with the team. Werder Bremen definitely has a lot of potential that we want to exploit. We want to make the fans and the city happy and then we’ll see where we stand.
