Panama striker Ismael Díaz has set an ambitious tone ahead of his country’s 2026 FIFA World Cup opener, insisting the Central American side will fear no opponent as they prepare to face Ghana in Group L.

With Panama stepping onto the World Cup stage once again, Díaz believes the squad has matured into a confident unit capable of competing with the sport’s established powers. The experienced forward says belief within the camp has never been stronger.

“We are very hungry,” Díaz said.

“We’re really not afraid of anyone, and we want to compete against whoever comes up against us. That’s been important; we’re starting to believe it.”

Panama’s message is clear: they are not in the tournament merely to participate. Instead, Díaz insists the squad are targeting a statement run that could redefine their standing in international football.

“I’m completely sure, and I speak for everyone on the team, that we’re going to do great things, God willing, in this World Cup,” he added.

Growing Belief in Panama Camp

Panama have quietly built momentum in recent years, with improved performances and greater consistency helping to reshape expectations around the national team. Díaz, one of the senior voices in the dressing room, believes that progress has translated into a stronger mentality heading into the tournament.

Rather than being overwhelmed by the occasion, Panama are embracing it.

Final Preparations Focused on Ghana

The squad are currently based in New Tecumseth, Ontario, where preparations have intensified ahead of their Group L opener against Ghana. Tactical drills, recovery sessions, and detailed match planning have dominated the build-up as Panama fine-tune their approach.

The clash with the Black Stars is expected to set the tone for their campaign, and Díaz is confident his side can convert their belief into results on football’s biggest stage.
