Panama striker Ismael Díaz has issued a strong statement of intent ahead of his country’s opening match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting the team will fear no opponent as they prepare to face Ghana in Group L.
The experienced forward believes Panama have developed the mentality needed to compete with football’s elite and says belief within the squad is stronger than ever.
“We are very hungry,” Díaz said.
“We’re really not afraid of anyone, and we want to compete against whoever comes up against us. That’s been important; we’re starting to believe it.”
Panama Eye Historic Run in Group L
Panama head into the tournament determined to make an impact after steady progress in international football in recent years. Díaz, one of the team’s senior figures, says the entire squad shares the same ambition of achieving something special on the global stage.
“I’m completely sure, and I speak for everyone on the team, that we’re going to do great things, God willing, in this World Cup,” he added.
Final Preparations Underway
The squad have been stepping up preparations at their base in New Tecumseth, Ontario, with tactical sessions, recovery work, and final planning focused on their opener against Ghana.
Panama will begin their World Cup campaign against the Black Stars, with Díaz and his teammates aiming to translate their growing confidence into a statement result.
