West Ham United has bid farewell to Ghanaian goalkeeper Joseph Anang following the expiration of his contract at the London-based club.
Anang, who spent seven years at West Ham, did not make a senior team appearance during his tenure.
Originally from Ghana, Anang moved to London as a teenager to join the West Ham Academy through a scholarship program. He earned a professional contract in 2018 but primarily gained experience through loan spells at EFL clubs Stevenage and Derby County.
Additionally, he showcased his talent while playing for Irish side St Patrick’s Athletic in the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifying rounds in 2022. Despite his international background, Anang was capped at the England U20 level.
Anang, alongside Angelo Ogbonna, was confirmed to be leaving West Ham United when their contracts expire on June 30, 2024. In an official statement, the club expressed gratitude for their contributions, stating, “West Ham United would like to thank Angelo and Joseph for their hard work and commitment during their careers in Claret and Blue and wish them the very best in the future.”
Although Anang served as West Ham United’s third goalkeeper for the past two seasons, appearing in over 30 first-team matchday squads, including during the club’s UEFA Europa Conference League triumph last season, he did not secure a senior team appearance.
