DR Congo’s head coach Sebastien Desabre has revealed the reason why his 24-man squad could sing “Debout Congolais” perfectly even though almost the whole squad was born outside DR Congo.
Speaking to the press ahead of the South Africa clash for the 3rd place position, the 47-year-old French tactician disclosed what the authorities did for the players.
“When DRC players arrived in camp, they received the lyrics of the national anthem on paper as well on their WhatsApp platform, so it makes it easier for them to sing during games as well as the technical team,” said Desabre.
22 out of the 24 players from the DRC squad grew up and studied in Europe. 19 out of the 24 players in the squad were born in Europe so it makes it difficult for the squad to know the national anthem.
DR Congo will face Bafana Bafana on Saturday night for the 3rd place match in Abidjan.
