Ghana midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi has personally turned down a late move to an unnamed Premier League club during the January transfer window, according to reports from Viaplay.
The 20-year-old FC Nordsjaelland talent reportedly attracted strong interest from England, with an 18 million Euros bid submitted close to deadline day.
While the Danish side initially rejected the offer, Yirenkyi himself opted against the transfer to prioritize regular playing time and improve his chances of making Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted across the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
Yirenkyi has made 39 appearances for Nordsjaelland, scoring three goals and providing six assists, and is under contract with the club until 2030. He has also earned eight caps for the Black Stars.
Nordsjaelland sporting director Alexander Riget acknowledged the significant offer but stressed the club’s belief in the player’s value: “It is clear that 18 million euros is a lot of money, but if you believe the player is worth more, it’s easy enough to say no,” Riget told Viaplay.
Yirenkyi now focuses on preparing for the World Cup, where Ghana has been drawn in a group alongside England, Croatia, and Panama.
