Dutch football legend Marco van Basten has voiced his criticism of Ajax’s decision to sell Mohammed Kudus to West Ham United.
Van Basten expressed his belief that Ajax fans attend matches primarily to watch the Ghanaian star, who recently completed a move to West Ham on a five-year contract, marking the end of his three-season tenure at Ajax.
Van Basten finds it puzzling why the 23-year-old was sold, especially considering his remarkable performance for the club during the previous season.
“Why is he going to West Ham, why?” questioned Van Basten during an interview on Ziggo Sport Voetbal.
“He still has two years left on his contract. Isn’t Ajax focused on building a strong team rather than just making profits?
“What is the fundamental purpose of a football club? Is it to entertain the fans and provide players the platform to shine, or is it primarily about generating revenue?
“Are you selling players now just to accumulate money? He still has so much to offer at Ajax. He has showcased his talent for a year. People come to the stadium to watch him play.”
