Ghanaian champions, Ampem Darkoa Ladies have secured a place in the final of the ongoing WAFU Zone B Women’s Champions League qualifiers with a commanding 6-1 victory over their Beninese counterparts, Sam Nelly FC, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium on Monday evening.
The ‘Nanamma’ squad once again demonstrated their dominance by immediately pressuring their opponents, leading to the opening goal just one minute into the match. Tracey Twum’s well-executed effort found the net to give Ampem Darkoa the lead.
Ophelia Amponsah came close to doubling the advantage on the 10th minute, but her close-range tap-in narrowly missed the target by inches.
Only a minute after that missed opportunity, Tracey Twum struck again with a bold header to extend the lead.
In the 18th minute, the Ghanaian champions found the back of the net for the third time. Mary Amponsah capitalized on a Nancy Amoh free kick to secure her eighth goal in the competition.
A final goal before halftime saw Ophelia Amponsah’s header find the mark, allowing Ampem Darkoa to carry a commanding four-goal lead into the break.
After the halftime interval, Sam Nelly managed to pull one goal back just nine minutes into the second half.
However, the Blue and Whites quickly restored their four-goal lead with a spectacular long-range shot from the enterprising Nancy Amoh in the 63rd minute. Tracey Twum completed her hat trick three minutes later with another goal, sealing the scoreline at 6-1, which remained until the final whistle.
Ampem Darkoa Ladies have now advanced to the final, where they will face Nigerian side Delta Queens. Their objective in the final is to secure a victory at all costs, which would earn them a coveted spot in the third edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League.
