37-year-old South African talented head coach who left Mamelodi Sundowns just last week.
In a space of 5 days, Wydad Casablanca has confimed the signing of Rulani Mokwena as the new man to lead the
Casablanca-based club ending all the rumours.
Africa Soccer Zone ranked Wydad as the worst performed club on the continent for the 2023-24 season explaining how poor the club was.
In the Moroccan Botola PRO 1, the runner-up of the 2022-23 CAF Champions League surprisingly finished 5th winning 44 points. The eventual winners of the league, Raja Casablanca, finished with 72 points, 28 points more than Wydad and it sparked a whole lot of controversies among the Wydad Casablanca fraternity.
In the CAF Champions League, Group B contained Wydad, Asec Mimosas, Simba SC and Jwaneng Galaxy, Wydad was expected to finish on top of the group but finished third and failed to qualify for the knockout stage.
Jeunesse Sportive Soualem in the 1/16th stage of the Morocco Coupe Du Trone won 1-0 at Wydad and eliminated the Red Devils. The club finished the season with no trophy.
The Moroccan giants started the 2023-24 campaing with Adil Ramsey who even took the club to the finals of the maiden edition of the African Football League but was sacked a few weeks later.
Veteran Faouzi Benzarti replaced Ramsey but also left due to poor results. Ben Askar, 48, ended the season as the head coach of Wydad summarising how poor the season was for them.
With the appointment of Rulani Mokwena as the new head coach, Wydad Casablanca is expecting calmness and consistency at the caoching role. The Red Devils also expect to immediately return back to form and challenge Raja Casablanca and FAR who have won the last two Moroccan Botola PRO tittles.
