38-year-old South African coach who coaches Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca was extremely furious with the Moroccan media and Wydad fans on Sunday night after the club’s 2-2 draw at home to FUS Rabat.
The draw helped FAR Rabat who won 2-1 at Renaissance Zemamra moved to the second place ahead of Wydad on the league log. The fans were not cool with Wydad Casablance losing its second position to FAR and decided to go hard on Mokwena and his boys with insults.
After the game, Rulani Mokwena explained to the press that his side can’t win every game because his team is very new.
“You can’t win every game so I can’t sit here every-time we don’t win and I have to explain this and that. Football is win, draw or lose. Wydad can’t win every game. We are a new team, everyone doesn’t want me to say this but we are literally a new team. It’s 26-new players,” Mokwena said.
“I had option to join clubs that were playing in Champions League but when Sundowns played Wydad, I saw the passion of their fans and the love they had for me. This is why I chose Wydad because I could have gone to AS FAR or Raja Club Athletic.”
The young coach had many offers on the table when he left Sundowns but decided to work for Wydad because of the passion the club’s fans showed when he faced them in the African Football League and the CAF Champions League.
“What I see now, the lack of support and patience, it’s not easy, guys.”
“What I see every week, throwing bottles and stuff, I don’t like it.”
“Maybe some people don’t want me here for long but that’s ok.”
“My grandmother got sick the day pictures and videos went viral when some fans were throwing bottles at me. She was 86,” Mokwena concluded.
The South African head coach revealed that his 86-year-old grandmother has been falling sick seeing how Wydad fans are crazily behaving.
Wydad has drawn their last three games paving way for second place FAR to leapfrog them. With just 6 games to end the Botola PRO season, Rulani Mokwena must at all cost secure a Champions league slot for the Casablanca-based club.
