Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council member Fred Acheampong has advised Minister of Youth and Sports, Kofi Adams, to be more cautious with his public statements regarding the sports sector.
Acheampong expressed concerns that Adams has been granting numerous interviews on sports-related issues without first consulting key stakeholders. He stressed that it would be more prudent for the minister to engage institutions such as the GFA and the National Sports Authority (NSA) before making public pronouncements.
Speaking in an interview with Kessben FM, Acheampong urged the newly appointed minister to take time to familiarize himself with the sector to ensure informed decision-making.
“Coming from a political background, he feels compelled to be seen taking action, but personally, I think the interviews are excessive. So far, he hasn’t achieved anything as sports minister, yet he’s been doing multiple media engagements,” Acheampong stated.
“He [Kofi Adams] should have conducted a thorough review after visiting key institutions like the NSA, GFA, and others. I think he could tone it down, get a proper understanding of the issues, and speak from experience. That way, he would better grasp why there are challenges with the Black Stars,” he added.
Since assuming office, Kofi Adams has been vocal about his vision for Ghanaian sports, frequently addressing challenges through media engagements.
However, some sports figures have urged him to reduce his media appearances and focus more on practical solutions to the issues facing the sector.
