Colchester United secured a memorable 3-1 victory over Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park, with Owura Edwards sealing the win in style with a brilliant solo effort.
The U’s got off to a strong start when Lyle Taylor confidently slotted home a penalty after Jack Payne was fouled in the box. Taylor struck again before halftime, finishing off a well-worked move involving Edwards, Ellis Iandolo, and Teddy Bishop.
Tranmere responded early in the second half, as substitute Kristian Dennis found the net following Omari Patrick’s clever turn and cross. The hosts pushed hard for an equalizer, but Colchester’s defense held firm.
Then came the moment of magic from Edwards in the 65th minute. Latching onto Iandolo’s long ball, he weaved past Lee O’Connor before firing a powerful shot into the far post, securing Colchester’s first win at Prenton Park in 17 years.
With this victory, Colchester climbs to 13th place in League Two and now sets its sights on a home clash against league leaders Walsall next weekend.
