Fans devoted to the senior national team, the Black Stars, currently residing in Ivory Coast, have purportedly been compensated with $400 each after threatening to abstain from supporting Ghana in upcoming games.
Upon their arrival in Ivory Coast to rally behind the Black Stars, over 400 supporters, transported by the Sports Ministry, found themselves stranded. The initial plan was for them to bolster the national team’s quest for success.
However, the 2-1 defeat to Cape Verde on Sunday left the fans disheartened, aggravated further by unsatisfactory living conditions in Abidjan.
In response to the discontent, a delegation from the Sports Ministry is set to arrive in Côte d’Ivoire on Thursday to address the concerns of the Black Stars’ supporters.
Wisdom Kobena Woyome, the ranking member of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Parliamentary Select Committee, expressed his concern: “I am particularly worried when I heard that the traditional team of supporters who will always travel with the team across the globe, the main supporters union, are also, as we speak, part of the people that are stranded. Well, I deem it speculative for now, but I will be there to get all the details,” he conveyed to Citi Sports.
In the midst of these challenges, Ghana’s national team is scheduled to undergo training today in preparation for their upcoming match against Egypt on Thursday.
