Chris Hughton, the head coach of Ghana’s national football team, expressed his disappointment with the outcome of the match against Madagascar.
The Black Stars played to a goalless draw with the Islanders on June 18, marking the penultimate qualifying match for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
During the post-match interview, Coach Chris Hughton conveyed his frustration, primarily centered around the team’s inability to find the back of the net.
He emphasized that their intention was to win the game and highlighted the significance of scoring goals in football. Hughton acknowledged the challenges they faced in creating scoring opportunities and stressed the need for a more forceful approach.
In his own words, “We are very disappointed. We came here with the attitude and mindset to win. To win a football match, you need to score goals. We found it difficult. We needed to be more forceful to create more opportunities to score. The fact that we didn’t score is the most disappointing thing.”
As a consequence of the draw, Ghana’s qualification for the 2023 AFCON has been postponed. The Black Stars will now have to secure a victory against the Central African Republic in September to guarantee their spot in the tournament.
